 ASSAM OFFICIAL LANGUAGE (TCL) COMMISSION

  • Translation of Central Acts into Assamese and their publication
  • Receipt of priority list from Central Government for translation of Central Acts into Assamese language.
  • Translation of the Central Acts into Assamese by language Officers of Assam Official Language (TCL) Commission.
  • Submission of the translated version of Central Acts by the State Government in the Legislative Department to the Government of India for their approval.
  • After approval from Govt. of India, these are printed in Azurlaid paper and Azurlaid copies are sent to Government of India for obtaining authentication by the Hon’ble President of India.

Publication of the Assamese version of Central Acts in the official Gazette by the Directorate of Printing and Stationeries, Assam Govt. Press, after receiving authentication from the Hon’ble President of India.

 

            The Assam Official Language (Translation of Central Laws) Commission was set up in the year 1987 vide Government Notification No. LGL.187/78/pt-I/46 dated Dispur, the 21st February, 1987. The Commission is under the administrative control of the Legislative Department.

            The functions and duties of the Commission is to translate the Central Acts which are forwarded by the Central Government to Assam Government. On receipt of the copies of the Central Acts, the Legislative Department forwards the same to the Commission for translation of the same into Assamese and to submit the translated version of the Acts to Legislative Department for onward submission to the Central Government for their scrutiny, finalization and authentication. After authentication of the translated version by the President, the said translated Acts are published by the Legislative Department, Govt. of Assam,  in the Official Gazette.

            All the officers and staff of the said Commission are under direct supervision and control  of the Legislative Department. All the decisions of the Commission are taken by the Legislative Department at the behest of the Chairman. The Chairman is accountable to the Secretary/Commissioner & Secretary of the Legislative Department.
